The annual Grand Master Fiddler Championship Youth Fiddle Workshop will be held June 28th and June 29th, 2023 from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm at the W.O. Smith Music School (1125 Eighth Ave S, Nashville, TN 37203). The workshop is for ages 18 and under (or any college aged student actively enrolled in an undergraduate program) and is completely FREE to attend.
Beginner to advanced level players are welcome to attend and there will be classes directed towards both levels. The workshop is focused on introducing fiddling to students who are either unfamiliar with it and/or in need of direction to further their skills. If you are unsure which level you are at, we will conduct placement briefly before the workshop starts. Students may attend any level of class they choose as long as they understand it will be paced accordingly.
The workshop features professional musicians from the Nashville area as instructors and includes lead instructor Justin Branum (Grand Ole Opry Staff Band and former Grand Master Fiddler Champion), Crystal Plohman (highly regarded string educator and Grand North American Fiddle Champion), special guest instructor Tim Crouch (in demand session musician and fiddle contest champion), Woody Paul (Grammy award winning member of the “Riders in the Sky” and National Fiddler’s Hall of Fame Inductee), and more, along with our staff rhythm section consisting of Tom Holzen, “Ranger Doug” Green (Grammy award winning member of the “Riders in the Sky” and “The Time Jumpers”), Mike Bub (Grammy award winning Nashville session musician and in demand touring musician).
PRIZE GIVEAWAYS will include a FREE NuBow by Rodney Mohr valued at $1,200 and generously donated by the Wyatt Violin Shop https://www.wyattviolin.com/nubow-feature
The workshop schedule is subject to change based on enrollement. We will be giving all students sheet music/tab, audio files, workshop mementos, and more. Lunch will not be provided; however we will take an hour and thirty-minute break for students to get their own lunch in the downtown Nashville area which has a huge selection of great restaurants. We will also offer snacks and water during breaks.
Registration is limited to 40 people. There is no cost for the workshop. For more information, please email youthworkshop@grandmasterfiddler.com
